Finding & opening
Section titled “Finding & opening”These actions help you locate and access the original source of any selected item.

| Open Source File | Shift + O | Opens the original image or video. |
| Open Source Folder | Ctrl + Shift + O | Opens the folder containing the selected item in your file explorer. |
| Open Item Web URL | Ctrl + Shift + W | Opens the web link for items imported from an online source (for example, drag-dropped from a browser). |
Transformations & layout
Section titled “Transformations & layout”These actions control how items are arranged, aligned, and visually positioned.

| Arrange | 5 | Automatically organizes selected items into a grid layout for a better overview. |
| Flip Horizontal | Shift + H | Flip items across their axes to mirror or adjust composition. |
| Flip Vertical | Shift + V | Flip items across their axes to mirror or adjust composition. |
| Resize to Source | R, S | Resets the object’s scale to match the original file dimensions. |
| Randomize Rotation | Ctrl + Alt + R | Adds small random rotation offsets to each selected item for a more natural, organic layout. |
| Normalize Size | Ctrl + Alt + A | Resets all selected objects to the same uniform scale. |
| Normalize by Height | Ctrl + Alt + H | Transforms the selected items to their median height. |
| Normalize by Width | Ctrl + Alt + W | Transforms the selected items to their median width. |
| Crop | 4 | Crop one or several images or videos to show only a specific portion. After defining your area, move it with Space, pan with the middle mouse button, and zoom by scrolling. |
Reset & restore
Section titled “Reset & restore”FrameRef provides several quick reset actions to help you revert objects to their original state.

| Reset Local Pan Zoom | Ctrl + R | Restores the camera view for a specific item without affecting the rest of the board. |
| Reset Rotation | R, R | Resets rotation adjustments applied to the selected item. |

| Reset Crop | R, C | Resets crop adjustments applied to the selected item. |
Extract & reload
Section titled “Extract & reload”Extract and update content without leaving your board.

| Extract Frame | Ctrl + Shift + E | Captures the current frame of videos, GIFs, PDFs, and images as a still image. |
| Extract Selection as Image | Ctrl + Shift + I | Saves your current selection (or part of the board) as a new image file. This action considers object scale on the canvas. |
| Reload Modified Images | 6 | Refreshes any source files that were updated outside FrameRef (for example, if edited in Photoshop). |
| Export Selection to Folder | Ctrl + Alt + E | Select any folder where your selected images will be exported. |
Colors
Section titled “Colors”As colors are very important to most reference boards, we have made it easy to extract this information:

| Global Color Sampler | S + left mouse button | See the color name and copy it from any object on your board. Once you paste it, your copied color appears as a color swatch. |
| Extract Color Palette | Ctrl + Alt + P | Extract 1–12 color swatches from your selected item. Uses k-means clustering to find the most dominant colors. |
Rendering & display options
Section titled “Rendering & display options”These settings affect how images and documents are rendered visually inside FrameRef.

| Toggle Antialiasing | Ctrl + Shift + T | Turns antialiasing on or off. Disabling it can make edges sharper for pixel art or low-res textures. |
| Select PDF Page | Ctrl + Alt + Shift + P | Switch between pages of a PDF file directly on the canvas. |
Video trimming
Section titled “Video trimming”In FrameRef, you can trim your videos to get just the perfect segment. You can open video trimming in one of these ways:
- From the dynamic object select menu.
- From the Item Actions menu in the top menu.
- With the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + T.
This feature will be slowly expanded based on your feature requests, but for now you can:
- Set Start and End Trim Time.
- See and zoom on your timeline.
- Use the playback controls (Start, Pause, previous/next frame, go to start/end).
- Adjust the playback speed to make trimming easier. This speed control is not used when committing your trim.
- Use timecode controls.
- Adjust Audio Control.
- Choose target width.
- Export as GIF.
